I am constantly amazed at how watercolors flow to create beautiful color and light as if by magic. I often sit back and just watch how the movement of color and light takes on a shape of its own.

I have been painting for over 40 years. I started in high school when my dad encouraged me to take a “real” class instead of study hall. With that I learned I had a talent for painting detailed watercolors. I have always loved watercolors the best as a medium, however; I think I would be considered a mix media artist since I do use pen and ink and acrylic in some of my paintings. I am drawn to waves on water and sunset, however; I have painted everything subject matter from nature to nudes.

Recently, I started illustrating children’s books. It is a new type of art to explore since the techniques are different. Instead of painting wet over wet, I paint over dry paper and then use pen and ink to accent the characters. This is a learning journey since the authors I work with have charged me with creating expression and feelings in the characters in the stories. I just started working on torn paper collages and I must learn to slow down because I am so excited to see what the finished product will look like.
